Indeed they are veneers. They seem prone to cracking as well (my Jazz has started to do this).

I have a 3-bolt 1980 Fender Jazz Bass that has no problems with stability (it does weigh 12 lbs though).

Those Ibanez preamps aren't irreplaceable. I am having one replaced in my CAR TMB300 right now (I did wait a year for it though).

Fixed. (I'd say I am sorry or bummed you don't like them, but that means more for me. This thread is making me want a replacement bag; the last time I had one it was a gift and my younger daughter stole the bag and ate them all.)
