Anyone playing a 60s spec P bass as their Number 1?

I have a CS 58 reissue, 9.5 radius, it is now my only bass, I prefer the wider neck. I currently have nickel rounds on it, but have used flats a lot as well. I have large hands and d long fingers, so it feels just right to me….

All purpose strings on a p-bass for rocknroll/country

You might like the DR Sunbeams if the Pure Blues are close… I prefer the Sunbeams on a P Bass and the are very smooth for round wounds. Similar feel to Pure Blues but a little smoother and softer on the fingers, slightly less tension as well. I really like flats as well, but the Sunbeams give...

    Ampeg Rocket Bass Combos

I am not sure what it was, all I know is that it has completely gone now. Sounded fantastic at practice today, first time I used the DI and IEM’s with it, really liked what I heard. Actually preferred the tone of the RB112 over my Aguilar Tone Hamer 700 with SL212 cab, I was expecting to be a...

    Hearing Aids

I assume you are using the latest Allure? Get you clinician to copy your Universal or PureSound program then go to settings and pick front facing. This will create a very directional array you can try, they can also move the focus to Clarity if you want more. I work in Audiology and Product...

    Ampeg Rocket Bass Combos

Just got a nice new RB 112, in the Ampeg box unopened and unplayed. To me it seems to have a brittle high frequency element that I didn’t note in the store on their system. Regardless of what I do on the Amp eq it doesn’t really go away, like it is baked in. It does lessen a lot it I turn down...

    Ultra boutique P bass pickups

I just wired up a new set of P Bass pick ups from Mr Glyn Pickups in New Zealand. They are so good! I like them better the the handwound fender CS that came with the bass and the Seynour Antiquity Klein and the BareKnuckle set that I also tried They were only NZ $200 as well, so by far the...

Just found very old original unopened Nickel DM Blue Steels.

Here you go, no difference in packaging that I can see. Hence me thinking all along this was a newer set. Interestingly no sticker in the pack… I forgot they always came with a sticker.

Just found very old original unopened Nickel DM Blue Steels.

Opened them up thinking they are the current non silk version made by someone else for Dean Markley only to discover they are the old dark blue silk DM Nickel Blue Steels, even older than the sets that had light blue silk. I must have had them for over 20 years all sealed up in their protective...

    Complicated Pedals!!

I am not a fan of the complex either, I find it stifling on my creativity. I find if I limit my options I use those parameters more often and more effectively. I even like my pedals to have 4 knobs or less… LOL…

    Aluminium pickguard shielding

I have a black aluminium pick guard on my Fender P and it is conducive, so I doubt more shielding will help, it won’t hurt either though. On my CustomShop the knobs are tight into the pick guard a long with output Jack all mocking conductive contact. I once put on a plastic pick guard only to...

What are some good pedals for light/reactive overdrive?

The Mr Black Bass Overdrive is nice and touch sensitive, for now it has knocked the Grizzly off my board. I am really liking it, lots of nice tones, from light tubey grit to a medium distortion. The EQ is nice too, very easy to dial in and tweak live.

    Mr. Black Bass OD

Reviving an old thread as I got myself the V2 Bass OD for Christmas. Really liking it in the mix, I have the bass pretty much on full to achieve no low end loss when activated and use it as a light to mid gain OD. Really like the treble impact, roll it back and you have old school, crank it up...

    Hearing Aids

I can confirm Widex has the highest sampling rate and sound quality in the industry. They also have a much lower processing latency. I have worked for Phonak and now Widex. Very popular with musicians, especially those that can tune by ear. Many aids do a slight frequency shift to avoid...

Most famous bassist’s axe you’ve actually played?

Really well, it was a while ago, but I remember it being in a different building to the actual cafe, and the vault was an actual old bank vault, beautifully looked after and very well secured. Jimi’s Srat was there as well… Was a pretty cool experience.
