Ultra boutique P bass pickups

I just wired up a new set of P Bass pick ups from Mr Glyn Pickups in New Zealand.
They are so good! I like them better the the handwound fender CS that came with the bass and the Seynour Antiquity Klein and the BareKnuckle set that I also tried
They were only NZ $200 as well, so by far the lowest price of the sets tried.
They are hand made by Glyn himself and shipped within 3 days.
He even requested a picture of the bass so he could age the pickups and match them to the relic finish.
I love that he winds them himself, and has been winding pick ups for many years.
Highly recommended that you give them a go!

Ordered a set of Arcane 65 Experience pickups on 1/25/2026. Received a shipping confirmation email on 2/3/2026 They were delivered on 2/9/2026. Just posting this for those like myself who may be considering them and then reading that they don’t get shipping confirmations or they it took weeks to get them.
I haven’t had a lot of time to play them yet but so far so good. Not nearly as bright as the Custom Shop ‘62s they are replacing. Mine are wound to 11.10k resistance according to the spec card. They are very even sounding across the strings and warm but with good growl when digging in. The CS62s had a weird, hollow, almost chorusy warble above the 12th fret on the D string. The Arcanes don’t have that and sound great up there. They also have great clarity in the low end. My bass is quite thuddy and the stock Vintera II and CS62s didn’t give me quite what I wanted from the E string sounding a bit diffused and muddy…the Arcanes are MUCH better in this area as well!

recently picked up arcane 57s , and creamery 65s in the classifieds , both are great
Halp!!! I bought a Fender Custom Shop P Bass that has the moodiest dark/warm pickup I've ever played. Unfortunately, Fender will not sell this '62 HW pickup on the open market. I want find an adequate substitute for my Nash p bass. The Lollars have too much character for me. Fralin said if I can get them the specs on the CS pickup they could likely replicate it.. I may go that route. I may buy the CS '62 they already sell on the open market but reviews say they're growly. Currently running old TI flats through SushiBox UA and More into TH500. Warm, tooby, moody!
try a mike dirnt sig pickup youll likely have to get from stratoshpere so keep an eye out for them , Just scored one theyre great

Fralin would be able to wind you an identical or very close replica. They rewind vintage pickups all the time.
If you bought the fender custom shop from fender and explain everything including wanting to work with Lindy fralin to reproduce the pick you love then you have a higher chance of them either them collaborating with you in some way.
A lot of time passed since the last time I wrote here; I’ve always considered overwound pickups to big too much thunderous and bass-oriented only sounding.
However, after listening to what Mr. Bacci put on his P-like basses, that is an Aguilar AG-4P Hot pickup, I started to question my original opinions in this regard.
I don’t know what’s the general consensus here is with regard to that specific regard, but, to me, it sounds like very rich, clear and powerful at all frequencies, a true surprise, to the point that I’d like to install it on one of my P-basses, which is now hosting a Klein Epic ‘62.
Is surely out this pickup under the list of the so-called “ultra-boutique” ones, not for its price but for the way it sounds, in my opinion quite surprising.

I saw on the arcane IG page that he rewound and reverse engineered a ‘63 Pbass pup , and was offering replicas so this came today , he said I was the first to order , so I’ll be the guinea pig , will report back and let you gentlemen know how tasty they are
I'd be interested to hear your opinion of how its voicing compares to Fenders own PV63 (which I was never a fan of, because I felt it sounded like a pastiche of a P-bass in a mixed, and mastered 60's record, rather than a raw 60's P-bass ; although I did stumble across a really good video comparing the PV63, the CS62, and a few others, and the differences in that context were smaller than I'd have expected - which made me somewhere re-evaluate the PV63).
I have the pv in a bass ill try to compare later , but im the wrong guy to do a detailed comparison , I have a tough time with articulating sounds , The arcane '63 sounds huge the strings are new and the g sounded like it compared to the others so I lowered the action and raised the pickup on the treble side definitely helped I dont love the pv'63 but I like it just fine , The arcane sounds better but I cant guarantee id be able to take the pepsi challenge and identify any precision pickup
Ok so pv ‘63 vs arcane ‘63 , both sound great , both labella flats , 15 year old fs set on the pv ‘63 , brand new low tension on the arcane bass , I mean the difference is there , I hate to use the word woody to describe a sound but I would say the arcane sounds more woody than the fender , the arcane I prefer I think, it’s definitely more responsive to the tone knob than the fender more mids for sure

As people in here have spoke in high regard of Klein pickups I thought it best to post here.
I went to go on klein pickups website and sadly found out that Chris Klein passed away end of March. The company has now closed after his passing.

I sat on buying a Klein for my p bass about two years ago always putting it off. I wonder if he had any stock and if the family will sell it off in the future.
