Uber Eats class action lawsuit alleges their priority delivery is a scam

I don't understand the idea of having food delivered to begin with. Just go get it. I believe for the most part people are lazy, entitled, think they are too busy, or some combination of those.
Preach it, I'll sing.
The young guys I used to work with would have Uber Eats, Grub Hub or whatever delivery service bring McDonald's orders to the shop on a daily basis.
Same. My Gen-Z trainees, (and I loved them kids as my own) did this daily. They probably still do. Drove me in-SANE.

I would never have someone else deliver food to me.:rollno: I don't have any confidence that they will get the order right.:rollno: I much prefer to go to the market or store, look at the product, inspect it, check the price and pay for it. Done. It gets me out of my apartment for a while. Plus there are the porch pirates who will steal the package right from the driver.:meh: No, I will do it myself and that way it gets done the way I want it. Simple.:) Then you have these drive through lanes which back up into the street causing traffic problems when there are plenty of empty parking spaces. Get off your butt and go inside and get your order.:banghead: Say hello to the person behind the counter and wish them a nice day. Works for me.;)

Pizza has been delivered for decades. What's the problem?
Typically the delivery driver was an employee of the pizza shop.

Uber Eats, Door Dash, Grub Hub are third party contractors that most likely don't care about the restaurant they're making a delivery for.

All this "delivered to your door" stuff took hold when everyone was staying home during you know what.
If able-bodied folks want to continue to live like that, even though there's no good reason to, then I can't fault companies who capitalize on it. A better way to word that is: I can fault anyone who's intentionally dishonest and manipulative. But I have a bigger issue with society collectively chosing to live a lifestyle that makes a business like that so successful, that it's given an opportunity to be dishonest and take advantage.
I cut a few trails through my property. The deer love using them. I made it easy for them to be lazy. If I sit on the edge of the trail and pick them off, should the deer file a class action lawsuit?
There's a really easy and simple way to not get charged fees, extra arbitrary fees, have orders screwed up, etc.
Now,...companies that take advantage of the elderly, disabled, and otherwise struggling to take care of themselves? That's a different conversation.
Those people should be buried under the prison.
@hbarcat , I hope you don't take this as argumentative or personal. It simply reminded me of the direction our culture, society and collective mindset is headed. Actually, I don't think we're "headed" there. We've already been on that road a while, with no brakes, and it's downhill.
My wife got used to the whole ordering stuff kick because we couldn't go anywhere. She never stopped. Years of extra fees, effed up orders, yada yada. Guess what I say when she bitches about how expensive everything is, or when they screw up an order?
Now,... I'm on the spectrum (so I apologize for many things, past present and future) and never truly enjoyed being overly social, crowds, lots of noise,.....people in general, so I never thought I'd say this, but I kinda miss the way things were: actually doing things, going actual shopping and actual going out to eat. I at least know that I enjoy the way things are now, waaaay less.
Sorry for the rant. I hope it doesn't take things too far into the weeds.
I should actually be cutting the grass right now, instead of posting my crazy perspective on the Internet.
But no one is watching me today and making sure I take my meds and do my chores.
It has changed going out to shops and brick-and-mortar because now they carry so much less stock.

To find my size I HAVE to shop online now. I do not order food delivery ever. Way too expensive to have cold food arrive. Carry out still works great, but also dining at restaurants is still a lot of fun - and no dishes to wash afterward!

All that said, I find it hard to classify this as a fundamental indicator of societal decline! There is so much more terrible stuff going on, this doesn’t even make the list.

We live in a rural area and for years the only delivery available was the Dominos pizza place in a nearby town (yeah, I know, not great). There was no added fee for this, only the tip to the driver. Now we can order from dozens of places much farther away with Door Dash or whatever. We get take out probably once a week, but I just can't bring myself to waste money for delivery of something I can get faster myself.

There's al lot of folks who rack up big bills because all this just goes on the credit card with a click and they don't see how much they are spending each month for a bit of convenience.

Pre-rolled joints. Not delivered yet but probably coming soon.

Daughter was doing DoorDash for awhile when in between jobs.

At least once a week, she'd deliver a big order from Dairy Queen to an apartment complex.

The apartment complex was ACROSS THE STREET from the Dairy Queen.

Maybe the customer was handicapped, I don't know. Otherwise........
One time a car caught fire at the stop sign in front of our shop. The driver came in to use our phone to call the fire department
which was right across the street the same number of steps.

I feel this the most with big box store trade supplies, like HD.
30 yrs ago, I could find almost everything I needed at one store, for almost any job at work or home. And relatively affordable.
With the exception of a rare specialty part.
I have watched the quality and availability of materials/parts slowly decline, while prices slowly increase. It was like slowly boiling a frog and it was tolerable while it was happening over 20+ yrs.
Roughly 2020-2021 is when it fell off a cliff And now you can hardly find anything in stock (anywhere) and what is in store is low quality and overpriced.

I neither and both agree and disagree, all at the same time.
In the grand scheme/big picture, I agree with that sentiment. When you breakdown and systemize components of a very specific thing or subject under a microscope and apply pattern recognition, things look a little different.
As far as whether things are better or worse, either individually or as a whole, even compared to each other, I guess that's a bit of a perception/subjection thing.
Although, I think if any/all of us really got into the weeds on most things, we'd find that we agree on more than it might appear on the surface.

They'd rather you replace an item versus repairing it...... case in point is my 35 year old Kenmore washing machine.

Thr coupler that connects the electric motor to the transmission that spins the drum broke, it's a $12 part but no one locally carries it. Bought a two pack from Amazon and fixed it myself in less than 30 minutes.

Home Dumpster and the local appliance stores were chomping at the bit for a chance to sell me the latest & greatest machine with 0% financing and whatnot...... yeah, no.

This thread was specifically about UberEats being sued for offering "priority delivery" service for an additional fee and then not providing that service.

It seems that the discussion has veered into the territory of the pros and cons of food delivery, in general.

Which is fine. We can see where the discussion takes us. I just thought I'd point out where the conversation started.

I used to get THC gummies delivered to my door once a month.
One time they didn't show up even though tracking said it was delivered to my porch.

A few days later, some guy from three blocks away knocked on my door and gave me the package. He said it was left on his doorstep by mistake.

There's still plenty of honest people in the world who'll go out of their way to do the right thing.
