Need a new preamp for my Gibson RD Artist

I've had a 1977 Gibson RD Artist for about 2 years now, but because I bought it just before lockdown (in the UK) I've barely had a chance to gig it. It was fine for recording and stuff, but now I've started playing it live it's proved to be very unreliable and breaks down/starts making loud...

The Basses of Mark Hoppus - A Guide

Sorry to resurrect the thread, but I couldn't resist throwing in my $0.02. I'm fairly certain that a few of the songs on Enema were recorded with a Stingray, namely Dumpweed, Party Song and Adam's Song. You can find the isolated bass track to Adam's Song on YouTube and it definitely has that...

    NBD: 1977 Gibson RD Artist

Sweet bass! Just curious, but what model Barts are those, just in case my pickups ever break down? Also, did you have any trouble getting them to play nicely with the Moog board?

I agree with it you fully about the sound. The Moog stuff is completely useless to me, but the sound of both pickups turned on and the knobs all cranked up is a thing of true beauty. As for the weight, I have never gigged with a bass under 10lbs (not by choice, it just happens that I've bought a...

I will, don’t worry! (Funnily enough a Ripper is next on my hitlist)

I don’t have any scales in my house so I can’t tell you how much it weighs, but my Jazz bass weighs 10lbs exactly and the RD is a fair bit heavier!

So, after borrowing this bass from the previous owner for a recording session, I took the plunge and finally bought the thing. I've borrowed it before for other sessions for almost 2 years, but was always put off by some crackling and popping noises that appeared when I moved around whilst...

Telecaster Basses - Not much interest on TalkBass these days:(

That's one hell of a collection you've got there! Whilst not my no. 1 favourite bass of all time, I've still had a deep love and appreciation for single coil P basses from the moment I first heard "No More Tears" by Ozzy. Amazing sound Bob Daisley gets from his '55 Precision.

    Dee Murray's Gibson Ripper?

For a little over $1000, that's a ridiculously low price, especially considering it's a rare finish. Even if you don't like it, you can probably polish it up and sell it on for a fair bit more! All I can say is you're a lucky *******!

I think I've found a fake Ric on Reverb

Just came across this bass on the 'verb being sold as a genuine '74 Rickenbacker. I am by no means an expert, and if I am wrong, go ahead and correct me. However, the shape of the body looks WAY off to me. The seller has said that the lacquer/finish has been changed, which may have shaved off...

Should I buy a Gibson RD Artist bass?

Ok, so here’s an update. I will be taking it to a guitar repair shop on Sunday, hopefully. I’ve called them and they say whatever the issue is should, with any luck, be fixable. I’m definitely going to buy it as soon as I get paid, too good an opportunity to miss. Should it turn out that there...

Should I buy a Gibson RD Artist bass?

Aha! Just had a look and I see it. What’s it for, out of curiosity?

Should I buy a Gibson RD Artist bass?

Sorry to pester you, but you seem like a knowledgable fellow with these basses. Do you know why there is a hole in the back plate? On most RDs it’s got a plug in it, but mine is just left open.
