Sorry to resurrect the thread, but I couldn't resist throwing in my $0.02.
I'm fairly certain that a few of the songs on Enema were recorded with a Stingray, namely Dumpweed, Party Song and Adam's Song. You can find the isolated bass track to Adam's Song on YouTube and it definitely has that sizzly top end that's characteristic of MM basses.
Another fun tidbit for you guys is that Mark said on a reddit AMA that the reason he switched from Rays to Fenders was that he loved the way the intro to What's My Age Again sounded on a Precision and fell in love with them from then on!

Wow you are totally correct on the Stingray. I listened to those isolated tracks. Unmistakable Stingray-with-a-pick clank. Thanks for the info! I knew he had the 'Rays at that time but didn't know if they made the cut on the album. Guess they did.
Found this photo of Mark playing a blue stingray with white pearloid pickguard. I just got a SBMM Stingray Shorty with a similar PG and trying to turn it into this bass by looks only. Just need the olympic white sbmm Stingray and swap the necks to complete the look.
Hey Johnny right? I was the dude that sold you this bass on eBay years ago for around $1k. I said in my listing as well as I told you it MIGHT be Mark's. I had no proof of that and there were a few small details that made me believe it may have not been so that's why I sold it for what it is worth. I love the story and hope it is but please don't sell this to someone else claiming it is the one without proof.

but i am curious what were the implications that made you think it was not his?OP here. Just wanted to confirm Mark definitely had a GREEN Stingray during their 1998 tours. There are one or two photos of it on the internet. However most photos/vids of that time show the blue and orange Stingrays, so I wasn't sure if the green one was borrowed or what.

And OP again. Another Blink gem unearthed. The band playing at SOMA in 1994. Previously the earliest footage available was 1995. This shows Mark playing his black Precision bass. And it is VERY clear in the mix. After watching this my respect for his playing went up a notch. He was an extremely fast player back then.

Not OP, but I'm resurrecting an old thread to confirm that Mark still has this bass—it's the first of his custom Fenders and it's in his storage unit.
@Odinbass I'm working on a full on compendium/guide/wiki on all of Mark's basses, or as many as I can get information on. I'm up to 80 instruments (mostly basses, or course), with something like 26 missing, given away, broken.
Whoa - if you care to share that compendium that'd be awesome. Obviously I have a lot of interest in Mark's bass history.
Of course! I only just finished the timeline late last night and am getting it "peer reviewed" by the Sticker Strat crew, and then Gear182 folks. AND THEN it's on into the details for each bass/instrument (the number right now is at 79 total).
My aim is to have both Mark's new tech, Brian, and Mark himself look it over. Namely, I'm hoping Mark can answer some questions about the whereabouts of a few basses.
For example, there's a CHANCE the graffiti yellow bass from the 2003 AOL Sessions and the Dolla Bill Tour is actually in storage, and not lost.

There is a copycat of the yellow bass up on Reverb right now. Gotta be one of the coolest hes had.

Some of these are likely one-offs, too: I'm including even things like the MIM Standard P-Bass in Sunburst that was destroyed in the STFTK video, for example. Or the black Squier P-Bass that's given away in the +44 video.
But the grand majority of these are ones that got some live action.
The sunburst bass is the same from the "Stay together for the kids" video. Plus he's been touring recently with the very same bass. The blue P was posted not long ago from a TBer, he owns it!
@Odinbass I just wanted to clarify this: The bass from STFTK video was just a random MIM Standard P-Bass. It was smashed in the video, so likely bought cheap strictly for that purpose. The tell is the truss rod access: Petey has it at the body, the STFTK bass at the head.
P.S. Up to 88 instruments.
That thought occurred to me after that post.
Have you figured out all the Stingrays he had? I only knew of the black one and then the blue, orange and green ones.
