Back in 2009 or so, I stopped by Main Drag Music in Brooklyn, NY to check a pedal and they handed me this '73 JB to try it. I lost interest in the pedal in a second and ended up buying the bass! My then-wife was shocked a bit when I returned home with a bass instead of the pedal!

Hi all! I can't quite believe my luck with this one.

I've picked a Jazz, purchased new in Berlin in 1973. I know this because it came with all the paperwork, including the original receipt. It ended up in the hands of a collector, and seems to have been barely touched - or even out of the case - since. It's a stunner, with a flamey headstock and dark rosewood board, and it sounds as good as it looks. The only mark of any note is a bit of a rash from when I removed the bridge cover.

Straight on with the La Bella flats - it'll be my #1 for Eagles trib gigs.

Last year I got a very similar looking 1972 Fender Jazz Bass with the original case, chrome covers and cable. It was advertised as a '71 due to the serial number but the neck stamp, pickup stamp and pot codes all date to '72. I also put La Bella 760Fl flats on mine.

Like yours I have to have the bridge saddles extended almost to the front of the bridge since the bridges on Fender basses was in a different location during this time which necessitated the longer screw for the G string saddle.

Mine weighs 8 pounds, 14 ounces. How about yours?

Even though the receipt is from 1973 I think it's possible that your bass may be from 1972. My Fender Precision has a neck stamp date of December 1972 and the serial number is 379032.
