'72 Fender pbass truss rod issue

Yep. That's probably good advice whenever doing a truss rod adjustment. Maybe a bit less important on this style bass, as you have to take the neck off to adjust, and wouldn't be under tension... but still good practice. Thanks!

I appreciate the help. To be honest, I wasn't even aware of the different "levels" of loctite and would never have thought of this solution. Problem solver indeed!

'72 Fender pbass truss rod issue

That's a great thought. It screws into the anchor pretty easily, so wouldn't require a lot of torque. My only concern is that because the truss rod seems so short, is there any worry that it screws in so far that I then can't get the nut back on it. But maybe I'm overthinking it...

'72 Fender pbass truss rod issue

Thanks, coalbass for the additional info. And for the pic. I have looked at the neck and talked to the original repair tech (not the luthier we took it to). I found that the truss rod channel is indeed curved as you would expect, and the truss does have a proper bow. It just slides out...

Hey Matt. I had found some pics that showed the cross-section of a full neck (on a strat I think), but I can't readily find again. I'll keep looking and let you know when I manage to find them.

Many thanks coalbass for sharing your experience. It's good to hear from someone who has dealt with the same issue (although I'm sure you didn't think it was good at the time!). I suspected it was unlikely that I would be successful in blindly screwing the truss rod back into the anchor. And...

'72 Fender pbass truss rod issue

Well... to be fair, this is a very experienced, highly respected luthier. And yes, he does know how a truss rod works. It's more likely that I am just not doing a very good job of explaining the situation. My questions were asked to try and give me a better understanding of the truss rod...

'72 Fender pbass truss rod issue

Thank you for the replies! The main reason I'm asking about the construction is that the luthier said the rod slid out so easily that he didn't think there was any bow to it. Which seems impossible... so thought I'd ask how it was done. I'm going to get the neck back from him tomorrow and see...

Thanks for the tip! Didn't even realize that existed. I'll cross-post there. ps... I should also mention... It's a maple neck, with a Rosewood fretboard... so no skunk stripe.

Hello All, It's been recommended that I also post this here. Hopefully someone can help out... ... New here, so I hope this is an appropriate question. I have a '72 pbass that I bought new back in the day. Wanted to have it setup recently. Was unable to move the truss rod nut to adjust, so...

Hello All, New here, so I hope this is an appropriate question. I have a '72 pbass that I bought new back in the day. Wanted to have it setup recently. Was unable to move the truss rod nut to adjust, so took it to a luthier for help. Unfortunately when he tried to back out the nut, the rod...
