    Removing a bow in Walnut

Then I'll continue on as normal. Lesson learned, and so "Here endeth the lesson."

    Removing a bow in Walnut

I don't believe that that's the case, because he himself is a woodworker and furniture make. I realize now I made a mistake in my original post that would imply that. I took a look at some older pictures of the piece and it did have a bow in it already.

    Removing a bow in Walnut

The Currently the piece is sitting at ~1/4 inch, but I plan on getting it a little thinner than that. Yes it will be used as a top.

    Removing a bow in Walnut

I recently had an acquaintance of mine use his thickness planer to plane some walnut I will be using as a top wood for my bass. Once he finished he noticed there was a slight bow in one of the pieces, and advised me to soak it in water and then either clamping it or placing something heavy on it...

    Set neck vs. Neck Through

An Update! It took a while, but I finally got a chance to work on the bass again! The first image is the CAD drawing of the neck template, which I painstakingly cut out. After that I re-cut the body template to create the wings. The final image is a mockup of the templates to give you an idea of...

    Set neck vs. Neck Through

Thank you all for the current, and future, responses! I'm currently working on the new templates for making the bass a neck through. Pictures will be added to keep you all up to date on what is happening.

    Set neck vs. Neck Through

Is your neck tapered all the way through or does it straighten out once it joins at the body?

    Set neck vs. Neck Through

I'm making some good headway on my first bass, but I'm now contemplating a change from a set neck to a neck through construction. This idea of mine comes from the idea that centering the pickups and bridge would be easier because I'm not quite comfortable with a router just yet. The plan would...

Back to bassics (yes I know that was terrible)

It has been quite a while since my last thread, and C19 didn't help with that. Anyways I have finally started on the scary part, cutting the wood that my bass will be made of. The sole image attached is the rough-cut. It was a tough process to get the pieces to fit nice and snugly together, but...

    Pickup Routing

Thank you all for the responses, I really appreciate them! I've read through almost every tip, and watched videos to figure this out. Currently I am working on templates, and I decided on an initial depth of 14mm. I agree with the safety aspect everyone has brought up. I have already hurt myself...

    Pickup Routing

I won't have an angled neck, thanks for the numbers! I'll also take a look at mounting the bridge so everything works properly.

    Pickup Routing

The body was made by me. I am by no means an expert at woodworking, but I am always learning something new. I'm not sure if Delano has a recommended depth, but I'll take a look. The template for my pickups is currently out of stock on BBG.

    Pickup Routing

First post, yay! Anyways, after a long break I am finally getting back to working on the prototype of my first bass. Last time I worked on it I ran into a bit of a snag with figuring out how to make the pickup cavities. In my research, I cannot seem to find how the depth is determined, as well...
