    Positive Grid Spark Live

Following up. I managed to approximate the bass channel tone on the front (guitar) channel, but it still does not eliminate the hum issue. I tried using a DI box between my bass and Channel one and engaged the grounding feature on the box, but no change in hum. The noise gate does kill it, but...

    Positive Grid Spark Live

Just purchased one myself. I've had it for about 48 hours, and here are a few impressions so far. 1. Plugging into the front channel (Channel One) creates a noticeable hum, not unlike an unshielded single coil jazz bass. The hum can be eliminated using the noise gate FX, but doing so alters the...

A Message to Bass String Manufacturers

Neglected to mention that the length I need is medium scale (32" Jaguar bass). Thanks for the link for the long scale -- may just buy one despite the single costing about half again as much as the original set of four.

A Message to Bass String Manufacturers

WOW. Didn't expect to get this volume of response to my post. It was meant as tongue-in-cheek snark, brought on by an unsuccessful search for a high C sting to complete a set of D'Addario nylon flat wounds I was purchasing. (FWIW, I ultimately got a Black Diamond one that is a bit heavier in...

A Message to Bass String Manufacturers

If you are going to produce a string, make it available in a low 'B' and a high 'C' or don't bother. You know who you are...

    Ibanez Mezzo Upgrade Path

My recent Mezzo mod -- converting a 4 string to a 5 string -- strung E to C. Rail style bridge had to have some mill work on the inside edges of each rail to reduce the overall span of the bridge. Rather than pull the nut, I used baking soda and super glue to fill in the A and D string slots and...

The cheap blade Pickups are pretty good -- at least the same quality as the original Squire pick ups. I'm set for now -- thanks!

Where are all the medium scale 5-strings?

You can see there is plenty of space on this one -- but I used an old Ibanez RB885 5 string bridge -- those axes were basically 5 stings built on PBass width necks. A standard 5 string bridge will be too wide though. I did used rail bridges on the second and third ones I made. ( Another Jag bass...

Thanks for the link! Don't need a set, just the bridge one.

Where are all the medium scale 5-strings?

Just converted two 32" scale basses from 4 to 5 strings. Squire CV Jag bass pictures. I've alsdo convere3d an Ibanez Mezzo. Its a bit of a project, but doable.

The Official Medium Scale Bass Club

Looked for JBE jazz pickups -- of the four outlets they state are online dealers two have no mention of them on their sites, one is on a site I'm getting a "malicious web page" warning on and one site that has the item listed as "out of stock." I found some cheap J Bass blades on Ebay recently...

Actually, I found that the original P bass pickup did a good job of covering all the strings, but the middle string fell in a place on the Jazz pickup that caused a noticeable lack of volume for that string.

The bass pictures is a passive set up, though I did have an old Ibanez RB885 that I put Lace bass bars in with active electronics. (Tone Monster active EQ -- on EBAY) It worked great with them, but same impression, they were a bit aggressive for my tastes.

The Official Medium Scale Bass Club

Being a bit on the old school side sound wise (I'm not looking to do a bunch of Marcus Miller thumbing or Sheehan tapping like I did back in the 80s/90s, nor do I ever play with a pick.) I find the Lace pickups to be a bit on the aggressive/bright side. Have to pull back on the treble...

The Official Medium Scale Bass Club

Modded Squire CV Jaguar I recently finished. Added a tuner, re-cut the nut, old Ibanez RB885 brdge and Lace pickups. It's now a 32" scale 5 string. After years of playing various Fender and Ibanez 34" scale basses, my aging hands have me experimenting with 32"s. This one is strung w/ Tomastik...
