Dear Bass String Manufacturers,
Please continue to use your analytics to produce only strings that are profitable for your business. By doing so, you will stay in business and we will have more choice in strings.
Furthermore, do NOT (especially in the interest of "fairness") produce an ultra heavy flatwound stainless nickel coated Lome green string, or any other string that will cause you to lose money. You will get the occasional strongy-worded email from people who use strings that BARELY sell enough in standard 4 string gauges. They will bemoan the fact that you don't make everything they want you to make. STAY STRONG!

Why? Total tension doesn’t tell you anything. Individual gives you an idea of what it will feel like, but it still doesn’t give you the whole picture as flexibility plays a major part and there is no publicly understood unit of measurement advertised for that. Total tension is worthless. What if it’s an unbalanced set an the G is tight as a drum and the E is super floppy. What good would knowing the total do then?Maybe list the total tension per set as a part of your product description?

If that’s the case some simple addition can answer your questions. Even if the manufacturer doesn’t publish individual tensions there are calculators available that will get you pretty close. There are variances based on core thickness vs wraps for the same gauge string but the calculators will get you close enough for your purposes.I am curious by nature.
