SUB series Sterling by Music Man? What am I Looking at?

The battery in my SUB died today. I'm pretty sure it was the original one. I put a regular Rayovac 9v in it and I swear the guitar sounds different. The volume is actually adjustable now. I know, it doesn't make a bit of sense.

SUB series Sterling by Music Man? What am I Looking at?

I've read that the standard pickup in the older Sterling SUB's are hot. I put a meter on mine, still connected to the pot but with the volume turned up and it read 6.3 ohms/2.1 volume off. The pickup I'm thinking of replacing it with is 8.3 ohms. The higher resistance would "cool" down the...

SUB series Sterling by Music Man? What am I Looking at?

I just put some Ernie Ball Extra Slinky 95-40's on my SUB. They're a LOT smoother than the string that were on it. I like them!

SUB series Sterling by Music Man? What am I Looking at?

Thanks for the awesome replies! I bought mine used a few months ago. I have some new Ernie Ball Extra Slinky 95-40 strings on the way, not sure what strings are on it now but they feel a lot rougher than than the Extra Slinkys on my P bass. I've been contemplating adding a GFS pickup and a Tone...

SUB series Sterling by Music Man? What am I Looking at?

I have one but it was made in Indonesia. According to Sterling it was made in 2013. Not sure if I'm going to mod it. Would a GFS pickup help with the "hot" amp issue?

    First Act medium scale

Yes, I still have it. I haven't done any mods to it yet as I went down the rabbit hole and bought a P bass kit. I'm not sure which route I'm going to take though. I really don't know enough about basses to give an informed opinion except I think it's a solid guitar. The fitment is really good...

    Saved from the trashman.

I did some online image research after I stripped off the green paint as I didn't notice any other paint underneath. I found some images that had the natural finish, so that's what I went with.

Do you mean the keyboard looking thing on the green picture? I have no idea what that was.

Thank you Owl. There are several channels on YT that rescue guitars. A few of them a really great.

Thank you. It actually plays quite well, for my awful skill level. Every trash night during the summer, I take a ride around the neighborhood on my way up to get my nightly beers. I've pulled a LOT of good stuff out of the trash.

And DONE! I ended up going with Varathane finish. I really wanted amber shellac but HD or Lowes didn't have it. I think it turned out pretty good for my first guitar project. I might have to make thinner shim for the neck. I'm going to give it a few days and see if the neck "settles in".

It was green latex paint put on with a brush. It was an awful job.

Thank you. "Tort"? Are you referring to the pickguard? That's the one that was on it. I just removed all of the nasty paint from it.

Here is an old Global that I pulled out of the trash in June of 21. I'm no guitar expert but I have made several CBG's. I had to adjust the truss rod and shim the neck, (the action was about 1/4" high at the 12th fret), replace the tuning machines and install a new bridge about 1/4" further...
