Sterling by Music Man Ray5 HH "Limited Edition" Review, for the impatient

Did any of you get emails wanting to ship the bass from a Guitar Center in non-original packaging? I declined the first one, saying I wanted NIB, and then I got another email this morning offering to ship from another GC. Kind of pissed me off so I called MF and they said it should ship from MF...

Double Bass Bass shops in midwest/first upright

I spent about 4 hours there and took back a Shen Rogeri Willow on trial and I think I might keep it. It sounded better pizz than anything up to 10k. And I had a great panini at the cafe!

Double Bass Bass shops in midwest/first upright

Going to the Bass cellar tomorrow! Pumped! Hopefully I'll find the one there; if not I'll have go to the east coast. Lol. And I'll definitely check out the little cafe!

Double Bass Bass shops in midwest/first upright

Update - I went to Wilson's locally and played Greg's personal Shen Rogeri SB 190 hybrid and really liked it. They can order me one but I obviously can't play it before buying. Greg is confident in Shen's consistency; he also bought his bass sight unseen. I just went to Guarneri House and...

Double Bass Bass shops in midwest/first upright

Thanks for the recommendations. I'll be trying a Shen on Friday, but I think at this point I'm more interested in older instruments. Of course at the end of the day the bass with the best sound wins though. I called Guarneri and really all they have in stock at that price point is new Chinese...

Double Bass Bass shops in midwest/first upright

I live near Detroit - where are the places I should be looking for a bass in the ~$4-5000 range within a day or so drive? I've been to Wilson Violins and I'm going to call Guarneri House and the Cincinnati Bass Cellar. I've talked with Mark Leue in MA and he has a few basses I'm interested in...

Ampeg V2 - what is this part?

Does anyone know what those things are on the bottom of the head on the inside? Below the cutout in the back panel cover. Looks like they would have held something? Link Removed

    SOLD Ampeg B-15 ND

Do you know what speakers it has? I think this is the one with the 7027 tubes, right? I don't have time to drive down to Ohio until next week but I'm sure interested.

    Short scale flats tuned down?

Is there a set of flats you'd recommend for an EB-0 tuned down a whole step, overdriven '60s pick style? Don't want them to be too floppy... I just got a '64 Gibson EB-0 that I want to try out with this Faces tribute project I'm playing in. It has tapewounds on it now which are way too dark and...

    '70s SVT cab towelback

Trying to figure out if I should make the 3:45 drive to pick this up. Haven't seen a '70s cab locally in the past few months. Looking for a mate with my '74 SVT. Can anyone tell what year it is? Do the speakers look original? Anything to watch out for? Should I hold out for a flat back? More...

    NAD '74 SVT/transformer question

I got a '90s SVT CL a few months ago and it sounds great with my SVT 212AV cab, but I found a pretty good deal on a '74 SVT, so I figured I'd sell the CL and get the real deal :D The guy I bought it from has had it since '77 when he traded his Rickenbacker for it. He mentioned something about...

    SVT-CL dust bunnies/stuffing?!

Haha yeah, when I first found the Leslie in a storage room at my church, it looked a little like that. I ended up completely rebuilding it and the Hammond preamp.

    SVT-CL dust bunnies/stuffing?!

That's more gross than I thought... Whatever it was got to the OT and PT wires, along with one of the ribbon cables and a few others... I don't feel like replacing all of that; I'll let the tech take care of it.

    SVT-CL dust bunnies/stuffing?!

Aaaand I just washed my hands... ew. That makes sense, although I didn't see any droppings. However, that confetti-looking stuff was indeed insulation. Plenty of exposed wires. I'm surprised something hasn't shorted already. Looks like my tech bill will be higher than I anticipated... :( How...
