Rickenbacker Pricing - Justified, Or Plain Obscene?

Yeah shopping around is always good, although I would only ever want a Ric to pull out for the Rush covers! To me, they're kind of like Ray Bans. They're okay but why people spend that much money is beyond me. Once again, this is all just my opinion. Nothing is too "overpriced" if you REALLY...

    4-string vs. 5-string

Yeah I find that Fender 5 and 6 string basses have really loose and sloppy B strings. Maybe it's just the type of strings that they come with, but stock Ibanez 5 and 6 strings have tight and crisp B strings.

    4-string vs. 5-string

It simply comes down to personal style. There have been times where I was soloing and thought to myself, "I wish I had mores strings!" And when I write, I like a lot of harmonics, so obviously the C string comes in to help. Nicfargo, kinda looks like Boba Fett there is playing through a Peavey...

    4-string vs. 5-string

Well if you wrote the song with 4 strings, just leave the 5th out. You don't have to play the B string. However, if you can (like John Myung playing stuff from WDADU with a 6 string) go for it!

Rickenbacker Pricing - Justified, Or Plain Obscene?

Well I don't see how that's irrelevant to the subject. I think they are overpriced, and that's what the post is about.

Rickenbacker Pricing - Justified, Or Plain Obscene?

I think you're looking into it a little too much. It really just comes down to the tone and quality and its relationship to the price. IMO, Rics just aren't that awesome for that kind of money. I'd rather have a Wal or something else. But again, that's just me. :)

    4-string vs. 5-string

4 and 6 just seem so magical compared to 5. I think part of why I wouldn't like a 5 is the lack of symmetry.

+1 Never even thought of that. Sounds interesting. I agree about the guitar players...

    4-string vs. 5-string

I don't know why but the idea of 5 strings always bothered me. To me, it's all about either 4 or 6. I play 4 and the only reason I don't play a 6 is because of money. If I'm going to extend my range, I may as well extend the high end as well. But I will always have my baby (4 string) for...

The Official "Show Your Basses" Thread Part 10

I definitely have to agree with you on that. However, I have seen a TalkBass thread with this one bass that looked like it was a smooth rock. A giant, smooth rock, with a fretless neck, 5, maybe 6 strings (which were all light blue). It was a gorgeous and unique bass, ut I can't find it and...

    Craigslist Gold

My buddy found a beautiful yellow Rickenbacker on Craigslist in Charlotte for $100. However, we don't live in Charlotte and the lady's husband just died; it was his bass and she didn't want to keep it around. We think she's foreign (English wasn't so great) and that she didn't know much about...

    Favorite Weird Song

I would have to say "Happy With What You Have to Be Happy With." Anything Adrian Belew does is gonna be quite out there.
