    What kind of strings do you use?

    They were new replacements. I was referring to the old strings I replaced. I live in the US. Oz has priced itself beyond the working man.

    Short scale rounds with the most mids

    GHS Balanced Nickels. You described them perfectly. I changed from strings I had been loyal to for over 20 years. I put a bunch of these on several short scale and long scale basses and they sound wonderful and are easy to play.

    A bad amp sucks the life out of a good bass.......but I'd audition cabs before I changed a head, if I thought I liked it.

    Discontinued Amps

    I mostly use Marshall amps and cabs. All discontinued. Lovely sound, clearly defined notes with warmth and note thickness. It's what I paid for.

    I could never do that. The speaker cab is where the tone invites itself into the room. All the money, aspirations, grief and desire, is between the fingers and the speakers.

    I'd take a look at Thunderbird pick ups. Lots of tones and clear notes to hear from them. Even seen a few in P basses starting with Pino.

    I read that Andrew Watt found a bass with inbuilt fuzz, which is obviously quite rare and gave the bass to Paul during that original session for the last album when this album track was recorded. It was a carry over song from the previous record not a new recording done recently.

    Yep. Have also been asked if they can take pics and video of the rig. Good sound attracts other bass players.
