Ok. My quest is now officially over; How could I have missed wikiloops?

I used to listen to that (Mr. Bungle's dead goon) alot before I started playing bass; Thanbks for reminding me!

One reason not to go fretless would be that this might be a one way ticket. You'll not want to go back and your hearing will be getting better. You will not want to play with that guitarist and his sloppy tuning anymore:)

Oh boy; am I looking forward to that new instrument. I know it will be a lot of work, but it all just happens as I tremendously enjoy playing the fretless. And in those three weeks I learned more than ever before - unconciously. It just feels like a "real" instrument. Creating the tone yourself...

Probably a little background info on my side to explain why I bother; I just started playing on a fretless bass, did so for 3 weeks, and then went back to my fretted instrument (because I had to return the fretless - will buy one soon...) and this is where it started to bother me. I realised...

I am trying to set up my 5 string / 24 fret Marleaux bass as perfectly as possible. And it gives me a headache. I fear I am on the verge of neurotic behaviour - I know that it is impossible to get every fret right, I try anyway. On the A,D and G string I try to achieve perfect intonation...

I just found one in my local store and was pretty impressed. Especially the parametric eq seems very useful and it sounds pretty nice, too. Any of you have experience with the 15'' M-Pulse version of this combo? How does it compare to the newer Carabine series of Mesa Boogie?

It seems that my concern was not unrealistic then. Good to know that this might be a problem with some gear. It's rtm time then..

Just got a reply from the Glockenklang guys. The DI out is protected. No worries needed about phantom power.
