    i thought that as long as it sounds good to the player, then that's all that matters? that last statement makes it sound like it's not an arbitrary thing.

    a successful bar owner once told me, without even knowing that i was a musician, that he would much rather hire a DJ than a band for these reasons: pay 1 guy vs 5....don't have to give out free drinks to 5 guys and their girlfriends.....don't have to deal with complaining or whining or a BAD...

    the weird thing is that cover band players do this all the time when they learn a cover and never bat an eyelash about it....they are playing it the other guy's way. and another thing is that if you like a song, you SHOULD play it the way you heard it, because after all isn't the way they are...

    jt, maybe a blend? lol like a dirty maroon 5, defunkified.....i do want a bluesy pop sound to it though - ur reading me perfect. eventually most tunes are gonna have horns and keys in them...although not necessarily all.

    yeah jt! that was me trying to vary the pattern with different rhythms. i have tried unsuccessfully to make the verse more than just a sublime song style. feel free to try to create a different pattern if it fits. maybe a maroon 5 style funky feel?
