Don't know who build them, but I do know that I love the sound of 'm. I don't understand why Yamaha didn't also sell them separately anyway, because they sound great. Also thinking about building one for use in J and PJ basses, just for curiosity.

Working on it. An awful lot to learn though, just started out on reading about electronics a couple of months ago. Extremely interesting, but It takes a lot of time. I'm a bit worried about finding good replacement parts for some of the caps or transistors.

Maybe indeed a good Idea to contact Yamaha. Because, also based on what Line6man said, these blank spaces may indeed indicate the use of different setups on the same board. The name/code LC87452 is the same for both preamps, that confused me a bit. I'll see what Yamaha can do.

I think you're right. Because some of the values of the parts also differ between both preamps. I was indeed wondering how one could have removed the parts with the solder so nicely intact.
