    sq series capacitor

Any capacitor of the right value will be just fine. The little ceramic discs sound EXACTLY the same as something like the Orange Drop in this application. Fender used them in the early days as they were common and cheap.

    Double Bass portable recorder

A +1 on the Zoom Q2n. While it can run for a while on its 2 AA batteries, I use a little 10,000 mAh power bank that will run it for days. Sound is great and you can use it for audio only or to video your band as well. I must say that the Zoom customer service amazed me. I had a problem...

Arthritis / short or medium scale recommendation

I am in the same boat. Arthritis has made it very difficult for long reaches on a 34" bass. I have several short and sub-short scales, but for me, that means my finger placement has to be that much more accurate, and I think that the Arthritis has made me a bit sloppier as well. At this...

Need a source for this stompbox jack

Ah Yes - they are the Neutrik, those clever people! I have seen the picture of them before, but it was not clear it the chrome piece was a nut or the collar. Mouser has the data sheet! Thanks so much!

Need a source for this stompbox jack

Anyone know who makes these jacks and where to get some? The are totally inside the box and a metal collar goes through from the outside to anchor them. This is the only way to have jacks on both sides that are PCB mounted. Thanks!

    MarkBass small size, huge sound

My Italian-made CMD121P is the only piece of gear I would absolutely replace if lost or stolen. Totally amazing, and never ceases to amaze others. The first gig I used it on, a bass player came up to me and asked to see my "stack"! His eyes bugged out when he saw what was making all the...

Looking for a luthier to install side lines on a fretless

Actually - I put them on most of my basses, fretted and fretless to be able to see them on dimly lit stages. Several sizes are available and if you put them on correctly they don't come off accidentally.

Looking for a luthier to install side lines on a fretless

It is amazing to me that even some high-end makers have the fretless dots IN THE WRONG PLACE! They don't make separate necks for fretless, just don't install frets, and the automated lines have already made the dot holes between the lines instead of ON the lines. Very disappointing! I have...

TC Electronic Polytune Clip — is this counterfeit or not?

Just an updated model as Behringer keeps cheapifying things for more profit. FYI - There is a new law requiring screws on battery compartments now. Trying to protect little kids from eating batteries. Don't they know that tiny screws and musicians are an oxymoron? How many truss rod...

    Change impedance?

You cant just add a resistor or inductor to change impedance. It is dynamic, changing with the motion of the driver, which is why it isn't called resistance or inductance. And the resistor would just eat up half your power.

Is it possible: Apply different distortion levels to different bands w/o splitting them then running them through separate gain/distortion circuits?

I think that this cane be done fairly easily in a DSP based device. It's just a matter of the size of the market for it.

    Medium scale 5string

Strings are wound at their playing tension*. If you put long scale strings on a medium or short scale bass, they are never pulled to the proper design tension. The result is a lot like down tuning - a bit floppy. I think that short scale basses got the rep of being muddy because owners were...

    Downsizing/Watts/Ohms advice

Going to 4 Ohms will roughly double the wattage, but it will not double the acoustic sound output. It will increase the sound level by +3dB, which is barely an audible difference. Adding a second speaker however, will double the ACOUSTIC sound output, and will sound twice as loud to your ear...

    Genz Benz Shuttle 6.0 fan

The "grinding" noise you heard was the fan trying to start, and pulsing with the variable speed drive current. Probably needed the cleaning. However, you need to keep your eye and ear on it, as it is likely headed towards failure in the long run.

    Neil Sedaka : R.I.P.

I am so surprised and sorry to see this - for some reason I have been humming his songs this week! A terrific artist.
