I had a strange noise coming from the fan when powering up the amp. Like a starter that refuses to start... A minute or two after, the fan comes back to normal and everything is fine. We all know this amp is sooooooo great even after almost 20 years!!!!

I don't use the amp that much cause I went full IEM a couple years ago. But it was getting on my nerves every time I powered the amp but since the issue doesn't last, I didn't want to send the amp to our Jedi Master.

I ordered a fan from Amazon and go figure, it doesn't work (yes, same dimension and 24v, same specs as the original).

I put back the original and... MIRACLE... it now works as new!!! I cleaned it before putting it back and I'm happy.

My question : the fan blows into the chassis and not outside as I would expect. I tried putting on the other side (following the arrow sign) but the screws didn't fit. Everything's fine?

Install the fan the way the amp was designed, it wasn't by accident.

It needs to have the same voltage, current and CFM as the original or the variable speed circuit won't track properly. All but the very earliest revision of this model had a variable speed fan.

Thank you Sir! I surely do not want to mess with anything inside the amp. I was just wondering why the fan was bringing air inside the chassis. The original fan is now working properly.

Because that was the best way to accomplish all of the necessary cooling, in the proper amount of air flow and in the proper directions, for everything to work together as a thermal SYSTEM. In fact, there we were awarded a patent specifically for this (and one other) aspect of the class D amp design which insures long term stability and reliability.

Yes I cleaned it and everything is back to normal. Makes me wanna play with an amp again lol

There is no pulsing variable speed drive current.
