I take my U Bass everywhere. Flying it's just a carry on. I use it also as a back up. With amp, iPad or just by itself I can be anywhere. Now to get fretless one!

I play 6 string most of the time and slap pop etc. Muting strings with my plucking palm side gives me freedom to play my upper strings with thumb if I want. Palm mute is from playing with a pick and it just came in handy as I started on the 6. If I play a harmonic or pop one I can let it ring...

Let me dig up the Big Bass rule book. It says develop your technique not please to others but what effectively serves the music. Make it a strum then by default it's not a r a k e. Check out Spanish finger style guitar vids.
