After using Thomastik Infeld Jazz RW on my Jazz for several years, I now have Sunbeams, and I must say they remind me of TI Jazz, but stay a bit brighter. I think they are wonderful strings. Together with TI Jazz they are the only strings I really like in the long run.

Exactly, but not necessarily all the same amount, just experiment until the desired effect and tone is reached.

If you crank up the tone knobs, and the Tube knob is fully engaged, you will find yourself in distortion heaven..

Well, it´s my experience with several of my (hifi) SS amps. And it´s when I changed the electrolythic capacitors in them, it became very obvious. But on the other hand they were 10-20 years old.

And then of course you have to account the efficiency of each cabinet. That is how much sound pressure they can deliver per given Watt.

As an amp gets older it ususally loses some power and becomes "softer" and not so bright as when new, due to component aging. That could be one factor that plays a part here. (BTW I have an ABM 300 EVO, and it was always a bit laid back in the treble)
