    First bass, 5-string warmoth neck

Hey all. I've been planning out a bass for a while now and I hope to start soon. I have limited woodworking experience but I am going to buy a premade neck and I have a luthier friend who is willing to help and let me use his shop. I've done a lot of reading about stuff, and I made a list of...

    Woods and the finishing thereof

That's because I don't have any wood yet. I was probably going to go with alder, but that may change. Well...that was contrived. Also, you could have another gun. Alright thanks guys. I'll look into finding some oil and a hardwood dealer (stupid google - hardwood floors dominate the results).

Wiring help - pot and capacitor values

Nicely done guys. Speaking of wiring diagrams....:D Stewmac has a [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] which is basically what I am doing. Individual volume, and master tone. Except I'm gonna have a dual coil pup with an on/on switch to select series or SC. :help: Thanks for all your help...

    Woods and the finishing thereof

^That. That was a good response. Thanks. Does the oil require intermittent reapplications?

Wiring help - pot and capacitor values

heh. so he did. K. I'm really not entirely sure, but I'll just go with 0.047 if it's the standard. Thanks guys!

    Woods and the finishing thereof

I am in the final stages of planning out my first build, and I have a couple questions. How does a warmoth body blank compare to say...wood from home depot? Can I pick up wood of the same quality from a relatively inexpensive local place? As far as finishing goes, I am looking for...

Wiring help - pot and capacitor values

K I'll just use three 500k pots. :) What exactly do you mean by roll off?

Wiring help - pot and capacitor values

He besieged me with science! Well in that case, won't the 500k pot still have a setting somewhere along its range where it ends up having the same output?

Wiring help - pot and capacitor values

One thing I don't really understand, is why shouldn't I just use 500k for all of them? Then, if I think it's too trebly, I can just turn it down. It's a variable resistor. The 500k knob can be turned down to 250k.

Wiring help - pot and capacitor values

hrm. All these choices. From Stewmac.com: "Generally, 250K pots are used with single-coil pickups, and 500K pots are used with humbuckers." Would it be weird to have different value pots for each one?

Wiring help - pot and capacitor values

So I'm looking to wire a bass as follows: Nordstrand Dual Coil at the bridge position with a two-way switch to select series or SC. Nordstrand NP5 at the neck position. Each will have an individual volume knob. The tone knob will be for both. Random Questions: I want an on/on switch...

    Nordstrand dual coil questions

Thanks for the quick responses! So, if I decide to go with a NP5 neck p-up and a dual coil bridge p-up, can I wire it so that I have a two way switch for the dual coil (SC and series), a volume knob for each p-up, and a master tone knob? What pots would I use? 500k for all? What capacitor...

    Nordstrand dual coil questions

Nordstrand makes dual coil pickups, which you can read about here. I have a couple of noob questions about them. It doesn't specifically say whether they are active or passive, but I'm assuming the convention is that if it doesn't specifically say it's active, then it's not? It refers to...

    Newbie question

So how about: P at neck. Humbucker at bridge. Humbucker has a switch to bypass/ignore one coil, making it sound like a single coil. Volume knob for each pickup. Master tone knob.

    Newbie question

If a bass has two passive pickups (say a j and a p) and volume and tone knobs for each pickup, does it need a switch for anything? On that note, would it make any sense to have a bass with a humbucker at the neck position, and a p-pickup at the bridge, and then have a 3-way switch with...
