It’s definitely a mystery but it doesn’t bother me. Adds a little character and could make for some good vampiric related tall tales.

I recently bought a used Romanian plywood bass. The scroll is covered in black residue that looks like fire damage to me. The rest of the bass is in excellent condition. Any thoughts? Wondering if it’s some sort of adhesive, but it looks and feels burnt to me.
