Fender Jazz Just WON'T Cut Through!

OP here... Well, raising the pickups helped a LOT with the cutting through issue. However, I stll had to push yhe mids on my amp way more than would be normal for any of my other basses. If my classic rock trio were my only gig, I'd probably sell this bass. It plays great and looks stunning...

Fender Jazz Just WON'T Cut Through!

OP here.... Just to clear up what seems to have created confusion.... I have a lot of different basses, including a Ric. The issue is not switching to another bass or even the EQ blend with the guitar. I have no problem cutting through with my Ric or my Ray or any of the other tens of basses...

Fender Jazz Just WON'T Cut Through!

OP here.. Last night, I adjusted the height of the pickups. I had to put foam under them to bring them up. The bass seemed to really come to life...😊 Tomorrow's gig will be the litmus test, I'll report back. Thanks to all for the ideas!...👍🏻

Fender Jazz Just WON'T Cut Through!

Thanks for all of the replies. I'm gonna take it Saturday for a small pub gig. As required, I'll get "stupid" with the EQ just to see how far I have to go to get it to show up better in the mix. I'll take one of my Rays as well, just in case the Jazz doesn't respond...

    No, it's a 2012 USA Jazz.

Fender Jazz Just WON'T Cut Through!

Yes, with both pickups, it scoops a lot. The best situation I've found is to solo the neck pickup and the bass becomes "useable" but still not where I want to be. I have two Rays, one with rounds and another with flats, both cut through with no problem. I even have a Squier VM Jazz with 15...

Fender Jazz Just WON'T Cut Through!

My amp has a gain adjustment on the input and I run it so the clip light "just doesn't come on" when thrashing the strings. I adjust it like this for all of my basses, so they are all hitting preamp about the same, I would think. I've even run this Jazz a little hot to see if it helps, it just...

Fender Jazz Just WON'T Cut Through!

I'm at my wit's end with this Fender Jazz Standard, I cannot get an articulate tone out of it when playing with my band (classic rock trio, not overly loud). All of my other basses (a lot of other basses) all work, some active, some passive, some with rounds, some with flats. I run a mid heavy...

    Epifani UL501 - Will I Like It?

Well my 800RB is getting tired and temperamental in its old age. It doesn’t owe me anything, I bought it new in 1985 and it’s been flawless until recently. But now the output is fluctuating and it’s making some static noise. I intend to get it fixed but it’s time to think about a new amp...

    Line 6 HX Effects

Well, after playing around and really loving the possibilities offered by my HXFX, I gave into my megalomaniacal tendencies and pulled the trigger on a Floor. If the HXFX is impressive, what can I say about this Helix Floor?? Amazing to the highest degree.... I looked around TB and didn't...

FWIW, I didn’t really like the Timmy. The lows were not at all tight, sounded like a blown speaker to me....

    Line 6 HX Effects

I’ve settled for now on a Deluxe Comp going into two identical instances of the Obsidian. Both off gives me my 800RB tone that I’ve used forever. One on for a little more grit, both on for a touch more. From what I understand, I could get the same result with only one Obsidian and snapshots...

    Line 6 HX Effects

I went out looking for a pitch shift pedal and wound up with an HXFX !!...hehehehe I have never used pedals, I've always been quite happy with the drive inherent to my ever reliable GK 800RB. However, now that the possibilities have presented themselves, I'd like to investigate what I could do...
