well, it's not shorting out so i can't tell what the problem actually is, or was. should it start up again i'll get back to it and come up with an answer

had it apart to fix the short! in the beginning it was just the jack, so i fixed that. then it got interesting and after all the usual suspects i wound up here. gonna try these things you all just suggested and see what happens, get back to ya in a few!

yup, just what the title says. jack's fine, solder's fine, cable's fine, amp's fine. have the pickguard off so as to make sure everything is a ok. when it goes back in place the short starts again..... what in god's name is going on? p style pickups, if that helps

if they give me any more lip i'll just run'em all through the dishwasher a time or two. that should orient them alright

the wah has it's own hardwired power cord, which rules. the other two have the designated adaptors from electro harmonix

.................... i plugged the wah into the chain so it's bass-wah-muff-grail-amp......... not a single hum anywhere. everything sounds perfect. muff and power wah are notorious noise makers, right? i didn't change anything about any of it except the wah addition. clean, some of the effects...

just got done jammin around and it all sounded fine. no more hum than is to be expected, which is kinda arousin my pants a little. question is where did it come from then and when will it return? what's that hum from outside interference called? it's probably that. still want to do the things...

batteries can kill the ol bank account alright. could you imagine if we still had to put 16 d batteries in things?

soon as i get a free moment of time to sit and mess with these pickups i'll give it a whirl. lowering them eh? should work out. the strings look pretty square on height and all of them, but of course i just eyeballed them. probably wouldn't hurt to get the things setup by a pro actually. i'm not...

i'm not going to answer every one of those questions as the old setup is irrelevant. the action is low, the pickups are looking pretty standard in height. how hard do i pluck? i am unaware of the psi. it's probably a matter of the string heights, merely wanted a second opinion
