    Double Bass Stagg EUB megathread

I would suspect the tightening of the strings has pulled the bridge forward. I have mine set st 90 degrees and if it starts to lean a bit I push it back vertical. It is not uncommon to tilt a banjo bridge back toward the tail piece but not, AFAIK, a bass. Bob

Thanks! It would be worthwhile to buy a cheap one and test it. How is the sound compared to the stock bridge? Bob

How does the foot spacing of a proper maple bridge compare with the Stagg?? Could one take an off the shelf Maple bridge and adapt it? I have experience with mandolin and banjo bridges. Bob

The advantage of fretless. The first gig went well and I guess it's like riding a bicycle. I did no harm! The bridge is a POS. I'll probably make a new top when I receive my delux model. Bob

    Double Bass Stagg EUB megathread

Just finished reading 45 pages of posts! I had assumed this thread had closed till I got to the end. I recently acquired a Stagg from The Guitar Center, but when it arrived, the bridge was cracked. After the GC forgot to follow up, I orderd a Delux from Musicians Friend, arriving Friday. I...

Double Bass Electric Upright for Old Time Festivals

Turns out a power supply was the "blem" in the Hog 30 from Musicians friend and the the Guitar Center Stagg "blem: was a cracked bridge. The top side bottom piece was cracked and the threaded adjustment rod was wobbling. They offered to replace the base for an extra $100 or try to obtain a...

Double Bass Electric Upright for Old Time Festivals

Replace the necks in around 10 minutes. I also break it down and pack it in my suitcase and have assembled it in the airport and gone straight to a gig. My Deering is a Gold Plated Greg Deering Limited custom, around $8K, so a far cry from the Good Time. I had an around the world tour a few...

Wayne Rogers just made a cutom GT for me which has BOTH a tenor and 5 sting neck on a 12" pot with a sand cast tone ring..best of both worlds.. Bob

A bit off topic but check out the Banjo Blast in Tucson, a tenor banjo festival every year or so..loaded with fabulous banjos from the 20s and the original owners. Banjos in much better condition. What amp?? Bob

Double Bass Electric Upright for Old Time Festivals

I used to play in Rogers Sprungs touring band when I was a kid and I played bass when necessary. My last bass and I parted company at a festival in Upstate NY in the 60s. It was pouring rain and it was either me or the bass in the van..the bass lost and when I woke up the bass bag was flat.. I...
