Does anyone know what pickups were put in the 1998 fender precision bass? were the 62 reissues?

got to say, i agree with britbonic on this. the p46 sounds sterile and boring in comparison to the other clips on the soundcloud example linked. i'm after replacement pups for a '98 MIA precision. i need more clarity in the lows and less mud but not at the expense of character. Perhaps Fralin ?

Can anyone suggest a good pickup replacement for my stock '97 pbass? I find the bass muddy, lacking clarity and indistinct in the lows and hard to record. Or is it unlikely that changing the pickups will make much of a difference ? I use roundwound strings. thanks
