I personally prefer the Messenger Jr which has the HPF and LPF plus some other nice EQ options. You don’t have to use the DI on it if you want it earlier in the chain. It’s almost as many adjustable options as the Empress ParaEQ and they pop up pretty frequently on the used market.

Nothing wrong with leaving a little room to add a new pedal in the future, but if you’re looking to experiment with layouts on different boards there are a ton of layout apps. My favorite is Pedal Playground.
