I have a passive pj bass and want to replace only the p pickup. Is there anything I need to consider with only replacing the p pickup?

I noticed something with my playing and wanted to know what you guys think. Do you ever have trouble playing songs you have learned without the rest of the track? I'm talking about the bass part you know. I found myself trying to play "what's going on" without The track and had a hard time...

I use the foam you get in most Seymour Duncan and dimarzio pickup packages. Works great. I use elixir nano web rounds right now and put the foam under when I want a more direct thump. It's obvious that it deadens the note and cuts sustain but there is still sustain to be had there and it gives...

I prefer passive most of the time. The cheap active stuff... sub 1000 dollars.. feels too unpredictable to me. The tone is just harsh and way too cutty... if that even makes sense to anyone

I met this guy that had one. I thought it was great. He told me he has a hard time finding one. I guess I could always build my own. I don't think I'll go though that. I would just buy the 50s classic vibe before I did that.
