Do you know who owned the original Steinberger L2 basses?

I saw the Dixie Dregs playing summer 1981 at the Lone Star Cafe in New York City. I stood directly under Andy West with my jaw on the floor, basically. A week or two later, I was headed to college when through an astounding coincidence, I ran into the VP of Marketing for a new company...

Help me understand Warwick Thumb BO 4-string pricing

I can't answer *most* of this. But I have seen prices varying as well. I own a Neck Through (NT) four-string fretted and a Bolt-On four-string fretless. I have seen the NTs command a much higher price and -- in my estimation, they are worth it. But why three BoltOn 4s should vary is beyond...

Are your cab and amp the same brand?

I'm doing just fine with the Mesa WD-800 head running into a pair of vintage Ampeg cabinets. I have no idea why people want to match their heads and cabinets. I'll play whatever sounds great, whatever I know well, whatever I can control to get the right sound.

Convince me not to buy a Genzler Magellan 800 over GK / Aguilar / Others

So it seems polite to end these chains with a what actually happened post. So here it is: Because of the thread, I did some research and started to consider the Mesa Subway 800-WD on top of the other options. And, after a ton of research and consideration, I bought a Mesa Subway 800-WD two...

    Mesa Bass Cabinet Choices

So I am reading this and quite curious. I have a pair of cabinets I'm unlikely to part with, I really like them. They are US Made older Ampeg cabs, each 4 ohms, one is a 4x10" and one is a 1x15". Together they do what I want. I am leaving my old GK ways and I'm pretty convinced I should buy...

    Is this still available now?

No longer available Mesa Walkabout Scout

I'm interested. I assume this is the "head" part of the Mesa Scout Combo? What is the wattage? Are there any sonic issues? Or is it still as new, sonically? And of course are you the original owner? What happened to the cabinet, if it was a combo? Thanks.

GK Plex or Trace Elliot Transit B?

I'm about to buy a Plex. I hadn't really considered the Trace Elliott. I'm a long time GK fan, so I think I'm more comfortable with the GK sound and electronics. I've owned a GK mini MB150 1x12 combo amp as well as an 800RB for my big rig that I sold long ago and wish I hadn't. I just looked...

    Huh?! P-Bass Neck Adjustment?

I'm eagerly following this conversation. I inherited an Erlewine P Bass (photo Erlewine A attached). I can't play it well because there is too much fret noise, which I think means I want to increase the "relief" in the neck. There is no access to the Truss Rod (if there is one) via...

Convince me not to buy a Genzler Magellan 800 over GK / Aguilar / Others

Oh no! The Mesa Subways? Now I have another line to keep track of. <ha ha> Frankly, I always thought of Mesas as guitar amps. But that's my own bias.

Convince me not to buy a Genzler Magellan 800 over GK / Aguilar / Others

I need a new bass amp, in the bigger, more powerful zone. I expect to spend about $800. The short version of my question – is there any reason I should not buy the Genzler Magellan 800? More details: I’m older and have a day job, so not so tight for money. I play out twenty times a year and...

    Gallien Krueger Legacy series?

I'm kind of in a similar boat. I "grew up on GK," and my favorite powerful amp was my GK 800 RB, which I had a long time and loved. I've been eyeing the newer GK's as well and expect to pay about $800 for a new head, to drive two cabinets I already own (two vintage Ampegs, a 1x15 and a 4x10)...
