    I’m not a bass player…yet…

Thanks DMT. This is the song: (I am old so yes I listen to crap like this) At 00:32 you can hear the dropped D as the first note of that verse that he dives into there. Researching this it seems that the bass player (John Paul Jones) was indeed known for using drop D on the bass as Carol...

    I’m not a bass player…yet…

LOL I forgot I asked a lot of this stuff here long ago. I never had the time to really focus on the instrument back then but I do now. Thanks for the welcome back. - One trick suggested was to close my eyes and put on a trum track and just play along with the kick - That's a great tip and what...

    I’m not a bass player…yet…

Background: I have been playing guitar since about 1980. A friend of mine at the time played and wanted someone to jam with and convinced me to buy a guitar and he would teach me. As an aside, that friend would go on to found the Voodoo Lab music company. I played in a band for about 8 years...

Super newbie question about Jazz Bass controls

A little background first... I am a guitar player - Just a bedroom player, not a virtuoso by any stretch. While I have played in a number of bands over the years, I am currently just playing on my own. I recently retired and decided to spend a bit more time with music and learning more theory...

Do you feel you need to justify your instrument?

If someone thinks it's simple, they should listen to this: Just starting on this instrument after 40+ on the guitar and I would not consider it simple by any stretch. But then I never thought that about the bass...

Do you also use the sponge cover as a palm heel rest? The Bass I was given is a Modern Player Jazz Bass. No cover and no thumb rest. I assume thumb rest is just a personal preference?

    Thinking in terms of bass

I have a jam band with my wife on keys and bass (Think: Ray Manzarek), a buddy on drums and I play rhythm/lead guitar. A number of the tunes you mentioned by Booker T and the surf stuff is some of what we cover. That and a LOT of Steely Dan. I will give Time is Tight a shot I think out of the...

    Thinking in terms of bass

Howdy folks. First time poster here and I hope that this is the appropriate sub-forum for my question. If not, guidance is appreciated. First, a little background... I am a guitar player. I am a hobbyist and have been playing for about 40 years. I have a decent understanding of...
