phase 90 type pedal with bettter tracking for bass?

I was going to mention that I had the MXR Wylde Phase for a couple of years and never experienced any low end loss, but then I remembered I ran an EQ pedal (Behringer clone of the GEB-7) at the end of my board to add lows back in (not from the Phaser, but from all the distortion/fuzz I had...

Replace Pickups or No? (P bass content)

Yeah, I’d agree with others, you can make all the adjustments you want, but those Model Ps are still gonna have their own thing going on. Best bet is something more vintage/Alnico. In my experience, you can dirty up more mellow pickups pretty easily with pedals/EQ, but it’s much harder to tame a...

Recently started using a DI Box, looking to minimize stage setup

I’d avoid the Micro CL, I think even as a stage monitor, you’re gonna run out of power pretty quickly. Do the PF heads still have issues? Given that the non-tube ones can only be found used these days, I’d be wary to roll the dice on one of those. The BA seems like it’s working fine for your...

    Paul McCartney SNL

I found his voice to be pretty endearing, personally. My opinion has always been that he is a solid bass player and an incredible songwriter.

    I am a Luddite/Boomer/Caveman

I thank the Good Lord every day that I’m a set it and forget it kind of guy, because otherwise I may be more opinionated on the matter.

Jazz bass temp mod: convert to neck humbucker

Artec makes ‘em still (Alnico and Ceramic), you can find them on eBay for not a lot of money (I believe $30 US last I checked). Other builders make them too, just expect to pay boutique builder prices. Nordstrand makes some in soapbar housings I believe too. Otherwise you could scour the...

Which of these three would you choose?

Price to quality, I’m gonna echo the sentiment of most others here and say for just a classic P that does the P thing, the CV is your ticket. Strings of choice and a setup and you’re golden.

Thunderbird sound from something other than a T-Bird

Love the look of the Ultra, but bang for buck, it really is hard to beat the Embassy. Sounds like a Thunderbird, plays like not a Thunderbird (in a good way), and plentiful used as well if you want to save a bit (or if you want to buy more than one color 😉).

Looking for a versatile bass with great vintage fingerstyle and modern slap tones

With that kind of budget, you could probably get a Ray AND a Sire V7! I'd be more inclined towards the Sire if I were only trying to buy one bass (personal preference), but the folks before me are not wrong for steering you towards a Stingray. As always, try to get your hands on everything on...

OC2 or one of its accessible clones?

I had a TC Nether for a while, which is supposed to be an OC-2 clone. I've seen some complaints on here, but I didn't have any issues with it myself. I sold it, but not because of any fault with the pedal, just took a break from music for about a year+.

No sound from Markbass New York 121 1x12 Bass Cabinet connected to Markbass CMD121P combo amp.

This was gonna be my suggestion! Checked out a Tube 800 at GC one day that was all plugged in but no sound, so I went to the back of the amp and gave the cable a quick twist into place and voila. Yet another thing to inspire no confidence in GC's employees unfortunately. Amp sounded great...

Looking for a cheaper beater Precision $950 or under.

$950 can buy you many beater Precisions lol. On the lower end, I like both the Squier Sonic Precision and the Classic Vibe '60s Precision. Honestly though, just go to a store and pick the one that plays and sounds the nicest to you, plenty of options in your budget.

    Looking for “bad” tone

Yeah, I'd think short scale with a neck or middle pickup and either flats or dead rounds would get you there.

NBD: Giving new life to a 1991 Squier II precision

Very sick find! Always thought these would look cool with a Cabronita bass-style pickguard, but looks great as-is, especially after the cleaning.

    Degassing

I ended up doing exactly that. I've wanted a Jaguar bass for about a decade and a half, but every time the opportunity presented itself, I either couldn't justify buying another bass, or something with the deal would go sideways. Ended up slowly selling off everything, was real patient with the...
