    Compression essential?

    just a feeling I got, I feel like most people who gig out there use it to help them keep their dynamics from getting out of control I also feel like it's esp helpful for slappers and poppers.. to maintain better volume when switching between s/p and finger plucking

    Compression essential?

    Do most of you have compression pedals out there? I feel that a compression pedal is essential, but maybe I am mistaken. If so, what kind of compression/limiter equipment do you have, and do you like it? edit: to clarify, I don't have one but am considering that my next purchase

    How do I know if I'm not getting the tone I want

    question is - if I've been playing a certain way for 5.5 years, how do I play differently now? Also where can I learn about differing my finger techniques to produce different tones? From a completely amateur viewpoint... it all looks the same: two fingers alternating and plucking a string...

    How do I know if I'm not getting the tone I want

    thanks for the advice. I'm willing to accept that it's my fault and not my equipment that I'm not getting the tone I want (playing technique). I have tried a few different strings, but none really helped. Sorry I got a bit worked up, bad day at work today. But nevertheless, I was hoping...

    How do I know if I'm not getting the tone I want

    You know, while I appreciate your help and time to answer my thread, being condescending doesn't really do anyone any favors here. I'm sorry I don't remember the size of the speakers in my cab right now, although I'm 95% sure they're 10". I honestly don't see why that automatically means that...

    How do I know if I'm not getting the tone I want

    because of my bass, my amp, or my speaker? I have fairly low end equipment right now, but I do have some money to spend. I'm trying to figure out if I should replace my bass or my equipment first: Bass: MusicMan SUB head: Ashdown Mag300H cab: Avatar 2x10" (MAYBE 15" I can't remember now)...

    Muted slap notes

    I've been playing bass for almost 4 years, but sadly I have hardly practiced any slap bass. Even though the styles I like to play don't have much slap, it's good to add it to my bag of tricks. When I play slap, I think I've formed a bad habit of resting my thumb on the E or A string when I go...

    What gives Flea his tone?

    Thanks =)

    What gives Flea his tone?

    Yeah but if you have the envelope filter adjusted so it's very subtle, it's plausible isn't it?

    What gives Flea his tone?

    For example, in the bass solo in "Naked in the Rain" where you can clearly hear his tone, it has a very distinct growl/crunch to it and it is almost comparable slapping but obviously not near as much attack. It's hard for me to describe in words the way it sounds, but what gives him this tone...
