    "Awful sounding" is relative. One, you can build your rig around it, like Brian May. Two, you can build your song around it - how "awful" an instrument sounds at any given time is determined in part by how any other instrument playing at the same time sounds. Et cetera, and so on, ad infinitum.

    That is pretty close, yes. Thank you. I'll have to add that to my think-through pile. He's a bit wrong from the get-go, though, there are 47 possible sounds, not 35. And, separate volume pots would be someting one would have to think about, if the goal is to get ALL possible sounds...

    This seems based mostly on your preconceptions of it. As I recall, the idea was based on wiring each pickup to its volume pot, and treat that as a unit - and then do the s/p wiring off of those units.

    What? Turning the jack around helped? I find that strange - the only difference between hot & ground that I can imagine would be that the amp may handle hum/noise better when it comes chiefly through the "ground" part of the cable...and I'm not too certain that makes a big difference, either...

    The wiring looks OK. Take a circuit tester and check that all connections are sound (check for bad solder joints/broken wires). Other than that, are you certain the coils are wired right? In phase, and the right wire to the right lug on the switch?
