    Double Bass lycon strings

Pretty sure former Lycon users mostly switched to spiro reds.

Double Bass Left hand default, if any, when improvising in TP?

I feel like both approaches have their merits, depending on your situation, although I feel like sometimes it can be difficult to always be in tune when you're switching between the differing positions a great deal (Chromatic, Semi Chromatic, Diatonic), so because of that I like to base my...

Double Bass Just starting: cello v. bass

The cello was my first instrument, and when I started playing DB, it was entirely in a jazz context. To get some chops, I started shedding some Simandl among other things, and I would always struggle with the bow hand, trying to translate what I learned on the cello entirely to the bass. When I...

Double Bass Please Compare: Spiro Mittle, Weich, & Superflex solo

Spirocore solos or perhaps Weichs might be a good bet for you. It'll probably be tough to play acoustic a lot with the solos, but they're very low tension, and have a full (not loud) pizz tone.

Double Bass Easy classical solo that doesn't sound like kids music?

Also you might want to check out a book called Ten Classical Pieces It's a book of Sankey transcriptions, and has some Bach, Handel, Telemann, Stravinsky, and is all pretty simple. I think they stock it at Lemur.

    Double Bass open ears

In my experience, a lot of the time if you keep your ears open to what is going on with the rest of your ensemble, 'interesting' lines will come naturally. That is, try and make every note you play a reaction to what else is going on around you. I find that often the best way to do this is to...

Double Bass Very basic Pickup for a Jazz Beginner

My experiences in hearing the Planet wing have all been very positive, and it may be just what you're looking for. The BP100 will give you a tough time with removal because of your Marvin tailpiece, as you'll have a tough time mounting the jack to the angled afterlengths, whereas the Planet's...

*GONE* For Trade: Evah Pirazzi Set (Lightly Used)

Hi guys, I have a set of Evahs that I used for about a week. I'd like to trade them for a set of either Spirocores (Mittel or Weich), or Pirastro Jazzers. I'm aiming for strings in relatively new condition, with all fully intact windings. Thank you.

Double Bass Right hand-two fingers or three

I've been kind of experimenting with an Eddie Gomez kind of three fingered approach, where the ring finger is just supporting the middle finger, so I'm still using a two finger motion. I find that it somewhat beefs up the sound of the alternating 2 finger technique, and I'm getting a little more...
