I had an early 70s Ampeg B15n flip top. Great amp but very heavy.

I think bassists like Victor Wooten who play a lot of solos benefit from those extra frets. I am an old school bassist and just play typical bass lines on my Fender bass. I never solo. I think I have never gone past the 16th fret. So, 24 frets would be wasted on me for sure.

I'm in. I came up in the 60's too. Started on guitar and starting in the '70s until now I've been a bass player. When I first started out Paul McCartney was my biggest influence as far as learning how to play bass. I still play in a band and will continue to do so until I am no longer able to do so.

How about using nylon wound strings on the Epi? They sound great on my deluxe pj bass.
