Epiphone Viola vs Hofner Icon Violin, how do they compare?

No one else has issues with buzzing? This one must be a bad model, I think I saw a few more at the store the last time I was there

I played an Epi at a local store, it was not good enough for me to buy and replace my Hofner Icon.

Unfortunate theres nowhere I can try out an Icon. Apart from yours, the other reviews don't seem positive. The only thing I can say I dont like about the Viola is the occasional noise, which might very well be due to bad/old wiring in my apartment

If anything, keep the case. I think it will fit the Epi.

Months ago i was selling an Icon case, and a guy contacted and given me his Epi measurements: case doesn't fit.

That's because I do what suits me, not what other people tell me to do.

Get the bass that YOU like playing and sounds good to YOU.

I didn't even want a violin bass, then I went to a friend's house and he had an Icon, so I played it. I wanted one immediately, since I liked how it played, sounded, and looked. That's all it took!

Ordered one the same day, haven't looked back since.

How about using nylon wound strings on the Epi? They sound great on my deluxe pj bass.

Sound great! Used to use roto 88`s nylon shorts on mine, really copped that Macca hofner tone on let it be (get back etc). They are thick though so your nut slots will need widening a tad. Theres a few videos on youtube which will give you an idea of what they sound like.

Btw, who cares if this is a zombie thread...why create a new thread everytime, much easier to find the info with few threads about the same subject

The Hofner sounds like a Hofner, the Epiphone doesn't. Advantage Hofner.
