Hi all, I just received a new 24 fret bolt-on 5 string bass today and noticed there's massive fret buzz, but only at the 12th fret of the E and A strings. I did some searching around the forums and the rest of the internet, and tried some suggestions... I tried raising the string height...

Mutedeity and everyone, thanks for your feedback. Oops...when I wrote that post I meant I'll begin with the basics, then I'll look into other styles (much much/years later on). I'm all for getting the fundamentals solid from the start, rather than painstakingly changing technique later on...

I think to begin, I'll focus on keeping my thumb in the middle of the neck, allowing it to slip down a little on the lower strings (E, B). When I become more proficient, I'll look into learning other technical styles like Geddy's. I appreciate everyone's input. I didn't expect to get so much...

Thanks for the quick response! Hmm...not sure how to describe...I guess if the middle of the neck is halfway...then around 1/8 lower. I only seem to need to go lower for the E string. Could possibly be an action problem on that string too...

While trying to do some chromatic scales on the E string, I discovered it's a lot easier to play and I can get a lot more power if I lower my left thumb against the back of the neck. I had been putting my left thumb against the middle of the back of the neck like in Adam Nitti's pictures...

Hey Bongo, thanks for your super quick reply! Thanks to your help, I was able to fix the problem by covering up the bottom of the switch with electrical tape. My guess is the contacts on the bottom of the switch were shorting against something on the board. Electrical tape isn't the best...
