    NBD

As someone who is generally not a fan of gold anything - paint, hardware, rings, etc. - I must say that bass looks Awesome! Congrats and enjoy it!

200w or 500w amplifier combo for local gigs?

I'm just here to repeat what others have stated - if you can, get more watts. You can always turn a higher-powered amp down with no issues to your tone; you can only turn a less-powerful amp up so much before tone goes to heck. I also think this saves you a future purchase, because I'd wager...

    Baum Basses

Also interested in this thread, they look cool and I like things that are a bit unique. The bridges look very similar to those on Reverend basses.

    I am so spoiled

I'm spoiled too. We rehearse at our guitar player's house, which has a bass amp, drum set, PA, etc. All I take is my bass and my pedal board, our drummer just brings his stick bag. And it's 15-20 minutes from my house. Totally spoiled.

The overwhelming task of picking the right rig...

The good news - there are so, so many good options it's hard to go wrong. The bad news - there are so, so many good options, it can induce FOMO or analysis paralysis trying to pick one. If you stick with names like Mesa, Genzler, G-K, Quilter, I'd argue you can't find a bad sounding amp...

    Favorite pickup configuration?

I'm in the minority here with preference for two humbuckers, with J/J coming in second for me. My main bass for years was a Modulus Q5 with EMG DCs, then a long time with a G&L M-2000. And I have an L-2500. My current main gigging bass is a Reverend Mercalli 5, with a reverse P in a humbucker...

Bass's reviews but different strings. Results?

Agreed. String changes are the easiest way to experiment with tone/sound, not to mention feel and playability. So often we see threads saying "my bass is missing X from the tone I want, give me pickup recommendations". While of course different pickups will change it, usually the first thing...

Looking For The Right P/J 5....

On the budget-friendly side as you say, I'd definitely lean Yamaha. I played the lowest-tier BB 5 string in a shop and was impressed by how good it was for $400 or whatever. I imagine the mid-tier 735 and the top-line BBP35 are great. The only thing I'd mention as a possible deal breaker...

What the absolute least amount of pedals you could get by with?

    Minimum: 1, a tuner. Current board: 4 - tuner, compressor, octave/detuner, chorus

    Advice on Giving Advice

I don't have a ton to add here, but my $0.02: I really like your approach of learning a couple songs to play along to. Scales and finger exercises alone don't keep kids engaged; the fun is learning to play songs! Billy Sheehan, for example, is a huge proponent of learning songs that way. Helps...

Hearing my self on stage. Issues with Markbass and Orange set up.

IME, it's always hard to hear yourself with a single cab or some 2x10s on the floor, especially on tight stages where you're standing right in front of the cab. Angling the cab, or getting it up off the floor on a stool or chair usually helps a lot. For years I brought 11" folding stools to put...
