would a di box like the mxr m-80 or sansamp di be ok to use? my guitar player in my band is just going to use his line 6 straight into the pa. would it be ok or should i buy an actual amp?

hey everyone i just recently started playing bass after being a guitar player for a few years. I dont know much about gear for bass and was wondering if you guys could suggest some cheaper heads/cabs or combo amps that would be good for small to medium gigs and has built in distortion.

oh wow i didnt even notice the frets in that picture. seems the only other pic i could find of that model also has frets. would explain why theres lines where the frets should be on mine that also seem kind of indented into the fret board. ive never seen a bass or guitar with the frets taken out...
