I've actually got the clean blend (and all the features we are discussing) in the design already. I'm trying to decide which to include. I think I will do a simplified version and a full featured version as well.

You don't get more or less compression in the low end. It's not like a dual band at all. I haven't tested it with bass yet but with guitar it let's you control how the bass frequencies 'trigger' the compression while still applying it to the full signal. Works wonders on chords where it keeps...

that's not really that hard to correct. I wish more builders would either be open about the overall phase, or just put in a nice inverting buffer on the output.

My current design controls the amount of compression by attenuating a signal just before the rectifier/threshold. I need to experiment with a ratio control to see how they interact.

I'm very aware that it is different. I'm wondering if many everyday users get much use out of a fully variable ratio or if it's a more subtle control.

thanks for those insights. I have it set up as a knob actually, so you can get varying degrees of sensitivity. I found it useful for electric and acoustic guitar so far.
