I would pull them through before I install, but I won't now. It seems to me letting my fingers and skin polish steel no so good. There must be a better way...

Side question: Some have said the flatwounds smooth out over time. Could I run some fine steel wool over the strings to accelerate the smoothing process?

The 30" is probably from saddles to nut, so there would have to be enough to go the length of the bridge and the length nut to the furthest tuner post plus windings.

I'm in Canada. The Thomastik-Infeld Jazz Bass Strings Flatwound Long Scale 33-136 are $165 = 13% tax = $186.45 That's a little more than I was expecting. Are they worth it?
