    Yorkville/Traynor Club?! Part 2

I stand corrected. The point it's a relatively light amp with big sound remains.

    Yorkville/Traynor Club?! Part 2

Traynor - Canada's "secret" hidden in plain sight. Even in Canada, the name seems to carry less weight than it deserves, but I could never imagine not using a Traynor of some kind. I've had lots of needs over the years but from big stages to small, and my all-time fave bass amp happens to be...

When Do You Think You Are Overplaying?

When the bottom drops out. Simple as that for me. As part of a "power trio" (singer is vocals only), and never using backing tracks, I would sometimes alter a bassline in a cover song to, hypothetically, cover more ground. When I need to drop the bass notes to do that, it rarely works out. But...

What is the absolute most bizarre, unusual, odd gig you ever played?

A celebration of life, which was an honour to play ... but had some unique moments. The poor chap passed from complications of extreme alcoholism. He was a Toby Keith fan, and I was playing bass in a TK tribute act. So, yeah, hard to avoid songs about drinking with Toby Keith, but looking at...

Scratch-It! pickguards - anybody here used one before?

I used them because I specifically wanted a pickguard with part of the logo from my band at the time. I wasn't going to find that in a store! 😀 It was perfectly made, I highly recommend, but I've since left that band and sold the bass it was on (with the original pickguard, of course)! 😆 As you...

Would you buy your #1 bass twice?

I've done it. A relatively inexpensive Fender American Special Precision (discontinued since 2014), but that is one of the few models I know with a "Shallow C" neck that I really like (a bit of a flatter feel in back of the neck). I justified it at the time as having one tuned down a 1/2 step...

The official "Show your basses" thread part 19!

I lied in terms of never making additional changes. 😀 The local availability of a long sought-after American Special Jazz in candy-apple red to complement my Precisions set me into motion. Downsized from eight to six in the process. '21 Fender Mustang PJ (sienna burst), Fender CS'62/Gen4...

    Incorrect Nut Slot Alignment?

I think so! 🙂 With the retainer pushing the strings down, it's going to alter the perspective a bit. Either way, it looks perfect to me after taking my glasses off and putting my phone an inch away from my nose for final inspection 😁. Go forth and rock it!

    Incorrect Nut Slot Alignment?

I'm going to bet a penny 😀 that the retainer is centered and that part of the string is just snagged underneath and can simply be pushed over. Subbed ... lol 😆

    Incorrect Nut Slot Alignment?

I agree with @Zooberwerx on his hunch. Looks from the pic that you just have to loosen the D string slightly, press down near the string tree and push the string right. If the tree has a groove underneath to guide the string, just loosen the tree to align that groove and retighten. The nut looks...

NBD: Completed My Fender American Special Collection. WHOO HOO!

Yeah. the honeyburst ones look incredible. I only ever came across one that was available locally in the past 4 years, but had already committed myself to red/maple! :) It kind of surprised me that I purchased all of mine used, and every time I'm thinking how the previous owners could part with...

NBD: Completed My Fender American Special Collection. WHOO HOO!

The other interesting tidbit I just discovered is that my first American Special Precision and my Jazz both have serial numbers that Fender indicates were manufactured in February of 2011:). It was apparently a great month for production!.

NBD: Completed My Fender American Special Collection. WHOO HOO!

Nice p-bass! I'll be sticking with the back pickguards on my red ones, but replacing the white pg with with tort on my honey blonde Highway One Jazz was a must!!!

NBD: Completed My Fender American Special Collection. WHOO HOO!

About four years ago, I purchased a late 2010 Fender American Special Precision (has the 2011 anniversary neckplate) as backup to my #1 American Standard. After a short period time the Special became my #1. Though it sits somewhere between an MIM and MIA Standard, Fender just knocked it out of...

    Trouble deciding a bass overdrive

Even if budget is no object, I can't say enough good things about both the TCE Spark Booster (full-size) and Mojomojo. I think for your needs, you'll be be happy with the Mojomojo. Both are "full bodied" with lots of range in tone, but in terms of grit, I find the Spark (again, full size) is...
