Forearm contours are more about familiarity and tradition for me - J and P basses of course have them. I’ve played, owned, and enjoyed my Dingwall Z, JayDee, and Spector basses that don’t have traditional forearm contours and have been comfortable on them as well.

My first really nice bass was a used L-1000 with the old-school headstock. I moved it along because Fender Precision, but it was a fine instrument. This development with G+L and the recent passing of Anthony Jackson were a sobering one-two punch for this old-fogey-in-training.

I’ve also done this for years, kind of stole the idea from Darryl Jones - no issues. Darryl has teamed QSC powered speakers with SVTs on Stones gigs for years now. My preferred rig is a B-15 with a k12. A k12-only approach is probably best for those that like a whistle-clean tone.
