Correct. It's unique in that "according to the books" a germanium transistor won't bias properly if it is set up the way the Cream Pie circuit is designed. Luckily I prefer experimentation to books...though I like books too. :D

The old Electro-Harmonix "Mole" or "Hogs Foot" bass booster is a cool effect to fatten up your bass tone. It's an easy to build circuit, and makes a great first time project. Schematics are widely available on the web.
