Fu Manchu guitar on bass?

I've always liked the guitar tone on most Fu Machu songs. I'd like to try to recreate it on bass. First, I think I would need to go up an octave. I think the Micro POG might be where it's at for me. I loved the tone of my Octave Multiplexer, but the volume drop and glitching caused me to get rid of it. With the Micro POG I should have glitch free octave up and down, right?

Next is the fuzz. What would you guys suggest? I think the fuzz tone has stayed fairly consistent over the years? Loosing lows isn't a problem.

Then there's the phaser. I think it was a Phase 100 (from their website). I think a Phase 90 should be fine.

Any suggestions and info would be great.

Oh, hell yeah. If I do this I'm not doing it half asse. I'm going to sound like a bass, a guitar and an octave below bass.

Balch & Co. were (and are) big fans of the Univox Superfuzz, among other fuzzes. The most readily available clone of that is the Guyatone TZ-2, aka Little Orange B4$t4RD.

They also tune down to D or C, depending on the song.

Well into an ideal world you can go with a Kyuss-Motorhead experiment. Use the almighty SVT cranked and some tube Marshall for the mid-highs. Don't forget to fuzz the hell out of them. Well, maybe just fuzz the Marshall and overdrive the other one. You won't believe the ferocious tone coming out from your speakers. Into the stoner music scene there are lots of bands experimenting with that kind of stuff in the bass. Heard Big Business ? thought they were a way bigger band the first time I heard them.

I've decided that the intro to Guardrail has the best envelope filter tone I've ever heard. Any ideas what was used? The gear page on their website shows a Dunlop bass wah and Boss tuner. But the song doesn't sound like anything I've ever gotten out of my Dunlop 105Q.

I saw them live a few years back - WISH they were coming back to perth sometime soon. PLEASE COME BACK TO PERTH!!!!

As far as I can remember, they hardly used many pedals.
Brad was using the 105Q and tuner into an SVT. He may have had some kind of "leave-on" fuzz on top of the amp, but I couldn't see it.
Scott - from memory - was only using a tuner and a single MXR pedal. Can't remember if it was a dist+ or phase 90/100.
