Theoretically. That thing may be the official nickname for this one. It looks ridiculous, but of the ones I have played this one made the sound I was looking for.

NBD - Ibanez 900SRDF

Ironically, I had a spine injury a few years ago that caused me to lose feeling in my right forefinger. Now my finger style is thumb and middle, and I think it sounds fine.

I use the P-Bass for a more classic rock sound and a really cheesy Ibanez when I need a 5-string and/or a fretless sound (chrome flats). I also use a Kala U-Bass for recording, but I just cannot make it sound good live.

Because I only use it for sort of a hard rock sound, I keep rounds on it. I am pretending I am Peter Hook and wailing away at it with a pick. That is probably better background to the P-Bass comment. The fret noise is a feature not a bug.

This was incredibly valuable to me. Thank you for the honest and quick input.

Rics are funny beasts. What they are good at they are the best at, but I otherwise often find myself going to my $350 Mexican P-Bass instead. I still think it is most iconic looking musical instrument around.
