    Double Bass Kolstein Heritage Strings

I guess I could edit my above comment to "worst case scenario, they change the formulation and I'm back to square one." Thanks for the heads up!

    Double Bass New stand day

No it doesn't have a back. It sits on rubber/cork supports like so: At first i was pretty cautious but it feels pretty stable.

I retract it every time as to keep it as close to the wall as possible to save space.

    Double Bass New stand day

My lovely girlfriend bought me one of the bass violin shop’s bass stands since our house has no free corners to rest my bass in. Here are some pictures.

Double Bass kolstein busetto bass bad for 1st foray into upright?

Bedroom is carpet... then it may be how the high the bass is (endpin extension) or the degree of the angle. If your teacher has instructed you to use a particular endpin setting and angle the bass to your body at a certain angle go with that and get a slip stop. If you are at liberty to...

For sliding: what type of surface is the floor and are you using the rubber tip or the metal point tip of the endpin?

I hear you! One of the nice things about the double bass is that they're expensive and hard to sell. The effect of Gear Acquisition Syndrome is attenuated and relegated to strings, pickups, and mics.

Nice it even has side bumpers! You might be thinking "gee whiz, I spent near the top end of my budget" but if/when you decide to buy something else you can probably sell it pretty quickly for what you bought it for if you offer it in it's current condition. That may not have been the case with...

Yeah it's definitely worth the long trip to BVS. Quite a few basses on sale in your price range.

Both the Shen and the New Standard are good bets for different reasons. The Shen might need some TLC at the Luthier's but $500 is a knock-down price regardless. New Standards are imported from Germany in the white (I think... correct me if I'm wrong) and tuned, finished, and setup in the states...

All the more reason to get a regular bass. If you shop for a bass in Nashville you’ll be able to find a luthier and get a comfortable setup. Best of luck.

This is a tough question: the portability of the Kolstein is a plus even if you need an amp. Less people own them so there’s a uniqueness factor too. New these seem to run in the $6.3-6.5 range so buying used gives you a bit of a price break. But... when you get a chance to try a well set up 3/4...
