Double Bass Loving the Dark Side!!-German Bass ID help

Yes it is. Any word that has "ß" can be alternately spelled with an "ss" instead. That's what I've learned, but I'm far from fluent in German...

Double Bass finally switched from EB to upright!

Man, if I had a dollar for every time someone used that exact description, I would have had enough to buy two double basses! lol But anyways, thanks for the input. I'll search around for an double bass teacher (CT) and try to get a lesson or two in. I was just wondering - how much do DB...

Double Bass finally switched from EB to upright!

After 10 years of playing electric bass (on and off), and about 5 or 6 years of telling myself that I will someday buy an upright bass, I finally took the plunge this past weekend! I bought a 1960s Czechoslovakian made bass from Upton Bass (many kudos to them for helping me out!!), which...

    New Fender convert here!

Clearly, anything besides an upright bass is just a communist preversion.

    Am I plain dumb?!

+1 vote for the custom (without actually knowing anything of these basses first hand). Also, in my opinion, it really doesn't matter what kind of wood the bass is made from - a bass's tone comes from the summation of every aspect of the instrument. I'd say trust your ears above all spec sheets...

    New Fender convert here!

Quite right. I'm going to wait a little bit before buying one. I still want to get a new amp first (I have my sights set on the Acoustic B100). Also, It's actually a toss up between the aforementioned bass and a J-bass, which is actually the same price.

    New Fender convert here!

So I had my eyes on fancy Ibanez 5ers. That is, until I spent a couple hours at sam ash today. I was getting a bit disappointed that I keep really liking expensive instruments, and then I decided to walk over and pick up a Squier Vintage Modified P-Bass that was priced at $300.... and my whole...

    Peavey T-40

My guess is that they thought they'd make something that would be newer and supposedly better. It's probably one of those strange cases of "they don't make things like they used to anymore."

Contemplating the switch (4 to 5 sting)

That too! A sales person at some music store showed me that several years ago. Before then, I thought a 5th sting wasn't a big deal since it really just gives you 2 1/2 extra steps on your range. I thought it was a really cool advantage to have so much extra range in one position...

Thinking of returning my Ibanez...need opinions

For the record, they do make the ATKs again... I remember how the BTBs were 5 or so years ago. I remember really liking them, though I don't know how I feel about the ones they're making now.

Contemplating the switch (4 to 5 sting)

So I've recently made it my goal to be able to play all of the Bach cello suites on bass! Naturally, the only slightly annoying problem that I have is that I can only go down to E on my 4 string. Over the years I've contemplating making the switch to a 5 string and always talked myself out of...

    Trading in equipment

Yeah the going prices for those seem to be all over the place. I don't think I'll be asking anymore than $100 for mine though. Apparently someone did some modifications and thee ground plug is not present. Also, the tolex covering is not the original stuff, and there are a few little holes in...

    SR706

I imagine it's pretty close in quality to the SR755, which I regrettably and hopelessly fell in love with about a week ago...

    bass and treble.

Agreed. Seeing how 6 string basses are usually tuned BEADGC, tuning the same strings up to EADGBE might create some problems.
